Does anybody have a strimmer I can borrow? The paths around my plot at Hanging Hill are becoming overgrown and it seems silly to buy a strimmer just to keep the paths usable. I'm not sure how or by whom the main paths get cut, but maybe we could club together to get a strimmer for everyone to use, or a few of us club together to buy one. Any thoughts or offers welcome.

Hi Colin, I'd be interested to know where abouts your allotment is on Hanging Hill. It seems to be different arrangements between the plot holders in various areas. I am lucky where I am that a couple of people with lawn mowers have taken it on themselves to keep a couple of the main paths clear. At first I kept the two side paths and a path leading in from a parking area to my plot clear with a pair of hand shears, then graduated on last year to a push pull manual mower. It's only this year having taken on another plot that I've bought a small petrol mower (spoils all the fun!:-). I am not certain but I believe that there is some equiptment kept in a community shed / sheds on the right of the main path in. However information on this has been contradictory and not being close by I have not chased up for clarification. It is possible that shared / group purchased grass cutting stuff is kept there. Hope this helps.

Hi Colin, there is equipment in the community shed but it belongs to individuals. As to arrangements between plot holders, it usually falls to the one who cares to do the job and the others just piggyback. Not a nice solution as, according to the Rules, each plotholder is responsible for keeping adjoining paths mown. If you tell me which Colin you are and your plot number, I could probably find out who your neighbours are (mtalbot@talktalk.net). You could then contact them and see if you can come to an arrangement. Some people without mowers donate petrol when somebody else mows their paths.
